Experiences
School
should be an experience. To be precise, it should be a series of experiences
which add up to make your school years some of the most memorable and enriching
times of your life.
In recent
weeks it has been great to see so many different experiences being offered
across the federation, but it’s been even more powerful to see the impact these
experiences have had on the children.
Rehearsals
for the Carlisle Drama and Music Festival are in full swing, as are
preparations for the U Dance festival. Friday saw a brilliant performance in
preparation for the Carlisle Festival by two very brave pupils during the Alston
Primary School assembly.
Duke of
Edinburgh expedition planning is well underway, and our regular clubs in
fitness and archery have continued to attract interest.
We have
enjoyed Bikeability in both primary and secondary classes, and the work of the
‘Mini Police’ has continued with great enthusiasm across both primary schools.
Year 10
have been to visit Teesdale Renewables to learn about apprenticeships, whilst
Euphoric Circus have continued to establish their lunchtime club with SKS.
Older
pupils have been to Newcastle to watch Great Britain defeat the Netherlands at
Basketball, whilst the federation as a whole have been preparing for World Book
Day.
The science
club at SKS are busy preparing for the upcoming technology tournament, and
Alston Primary School will be visiting the town library this week.
We have had
a visit from the Space Masterclass involving Year 7 and Year 8 pupils, and the
children at Nenthead have experienced ‘fencing’ thanks to Action Ants.
Year 8 have
visited the Central Mosque in Newcastle, and Nenthead Primary School have
enjoyed another lovely community breakfast.
This week
will see everyone at Samuel King’s School undertake basic first aid training,
and Northumbria University have been in school to work with our Year 7 pupils.
On top of
all this, lessons and learning have continued.
As we look
ahead to the coming weeks there are many more amazing school experiences on the
horizon. All three schools have various residential visits coming up before the
end of the year, and there are many day trips and activities planned before the
summer break.
It is great
to see the federation so busy.
